Delicious Toffee Apples

Delicious Toffee Apples

Oct 28, 2011

The end of October and the beginning of November is when nights draw in and the chill begins to take hold. It's also home to Halloween and Bonfire Night. Both events are fun for children and adults alike. In my opinion, it simply wouldn't be the same without toffee apples. This easy recipe takes 20 minutes and results in sticky, tasty toffee apples ready for those trick or treaters or to keep you energised for watching fireworks.

Ingredients

  • 500g demerara sugar
  • 75g unsalted butter
  • 225g golden syrup
  • 150ml water
  • 2 tsp malt vinegar
  • 8 medium apples
  • Lolly sticks
Instructions
  1. Add the butter, sugar, syrup water and the vinegar into a pan over a gentle heat and stir until dissolved.
  2. Bring the pan to the boil and leave for 5-10 minutes, or until the mixture thickens.
  3. Prepare a tray with baking parchment to cool the toffee apples on.
  4. Push the lolly sticks into the apples, dip into the mixture and coat fully.
  5. Turn each to allow the excess toffee to drip off and place on the paper to cool.
