Ingredients
- 340g plain flour
- 15g fresh yeast
- 1 tsp sugar
- 285ml warm water
- 1 tsp salt
- 30g butter or margarine
- 1 egg
Instructions
- Sieve one third of the flour into a mixing bowl, rub in the fresh yeast. Add the sugar and water and mix to a smooth batter.
- Cover with a damp cloth and leave to ferment for 15 minutes.
- In a separate bowl mix the remaining flour and salt and rub in the butter till you have fine breadcrumbs.
- Add the batter mixture and combine to form a soft dough and knead well for 10 minutes. Cover with a damp cloth and leave to prove for an hour.
- Knead again for a minute before sectioning the dough into eight equal portions. Roll each piece into a flat round shape.
- Place on a greased baking tray, cover with a dry cloth and prove until doubled, about 40-50 minutes.
- Brush gently with beaten egg and sprinkle sesame seeds. Bake in a hot oven. 220C/gas mark 7 for 10 minutes.
